SAINT JOHN, NB – Three of the Saint John Sea Dogs draft choices in the 2012 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Entry Draft have committed to the team and will be in attendance at the team’s training camp beginning August 15.
Olivier Leblanc, Spencer Smallman and Noah Zilbert will be among the new faces vying for spots on a new look Sea Dogs lineup.
Leblanc, the 16-year-old Quebec City native and the Sea Dog’s second selection in the first round at 11th overall has committed to the team. Leblanc is a talented defenceman who models his game after Francois Beachemin. Leblanc notched three goals and added 12 assists in 40 games last year with St. Francois of the Quebec Midget AAA.
Smallman and Zilbert were selected 70th and 73rd, a special experience for teammates from the Fredericton Canadiens midget AAA system. Smallman has committed to the Dogs after posting 16 goals and 25 assists with the Canadiens in 34 games.
Zilbert has plenty of high profile experience after tallying 26 goals and 55 points in only 27 games with the Canadiens before heading up to the Maritime Junior A Hockey League with the Woodstock Slammers. Zilbert played 13 games with the Slammers in their post-season run to the Fred Page Cup win and RBC Cup appearance. Zilbert also played with Team Atlantic at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge with current Sea Dog Oliver Cooper.
“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with these three young men and have them commit to our organization moving forward as we continue to add talented players,” said Head Coach and General Manager Mike Kelly.
